10 Years Ago Kelsie Hopkins and Amanda Matthews planted sunflower seeds at the fairgrounds as part of the Taste of Agriculture school program for fourth-graders throughout the county. The girls are students in Barb Bean’s North Webster Elementary class. Winning the Sixth Annual Warsaw Community High School Battle of the Bands competition at Lakeview Middle School with 141 votes are The Royal Nonesuch, with Cyrus Felton, Eric Green, Kyle Carter and Nick Walmer, who was also named best soloist. They opened their set with a rocked-out version of the “Sesame Street” theme. Second place went to Friday Night Collision, with 125 votes. Other participating bands were Domestic Blend and One Last Try. 25 Years Ago Tippecanoe Valley Building Trades teacher Ken Murphy recommended the 1990-91 class build a home for Mr. and Mrs. Richard Bose in Mentone. Eloise Eberly, Mentone junior high English teacher, and Keith Mathias, Akron junior high English teacher, have submitted letters of retirement for the end of this school year. Balinda Ross, daughter of Gerald and Sharlene Ross, Mentone, has been selected as an entrant in the Miss Indiana Teen All American Pageant to be staged at the Hilton in Indianapolis April 28. The event will select Indiana’s representative to the 1990 Miss Teen All American Pageant to be held in Miami Beach this July. Lake City Bank’s newest location at Woodland Plaza is open for business. He is the brother of Ron Henry, assistant professor of history. Mrs. Norman Uphouse was advanced from acting dean of women to the position of full dean. Warsaw High School speech students qualifying for the state contest in Logansport are Nancy Camden, Chuck Harvuot, Coleen Martin, Elaine Munson. Instructor is Mrs. Herbert Petrie. Sites suggested for the range are the Beyer Stock farm, Road 30 East, and the old golf course near the Winona Lake gravel pit. At one time, local archers were granted a section of Bixler Park, Center Lake, for a range. Curtis Garber, senior, was captain and a forward for this past season’s Warsaw High School basketball squad. Stevens’ Troubadors, made up of Glen Lehman and Herbert Harley, South Whitley, George McDonald, Laud, and Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Stevens, Claypool, started a nine-week tour with David Hogg, Fort Wayne, in his campaign for governor.
