    MUNCIE - Gillion Morrison, a senior at the Indiana Academy for Science, Mathematics and Humanities, on the campus of Ball State University, placed third in the high school division at the 13th annual Japanese Language Speech Contest in Chicago. Morrison is the daughter of Mark and Carol Morrison, Warsaw.

    PIERCETON - A finance director for the Indiana Department of Public Instruction was named superintendent of the Whitko Community School Corp. recently.

Dr. Kenneth R. Blad, assistant director of School Fiance, was awarded a three-year contract unanimously approved by school board members. Blad will replace J.O. Smith, who has served as Whitko superintendent for the past 12 years.

April 21 1959

    First Lt. Roger E. Brockhoff, son of Mr. and Mrs. F.H. Brockhoff, Tippecanoe Lake, near Leesburg, recently completed combat crew training in the Air Defense Command's supersonic F-102A all-weather interceptor. He is a member of the 71st Fighter Interceptor Squadron, Selfridge Air Force Base in Michigan.

April 21 1934

    A stuffed dummy beside the highway just east of Mentone resulted in calling out the sheriff and one deputy and Dr. Clutter to make investigation after it had been reported a dead man had been seen beside the road. Harley Rettinger made the report.

Sheriff Person investigated shortly after midnight and found some Mentone youths had placed the stuffed dummy there as a prank.
