Joni Brookins, assistant director of the Warsaw Community Public Library, demonstrated to the board the new self-checkout equipment recently installed to the right of the main circulation desk. The machine scanned a library card and book and printed out a receipt. CDs and DVDs still go through the circulation desk.
Pierceton Cub Scout Pack 3761 collected almost 700 items for the Pierceton Food Pantry during its Scouting for Food program.
Erin and Laura Pelz, Warsaw Community High School, served as pages at the Indiana Statehouse for Rep. David Wolkins March 22.
Beginning today, workshops for “Communicating with Your Teen” will meet every Tuesday through May 24 with Lou Ann Parker at Wawasee Middle School.

An official groundbreaking ceremony was held April 9 for the new Zimmer headquarters building at the old freshman high site, Main and Indiana streets. The facility faces Center Lake on the north with a sloped glass and granite facade, and features a three-story atrium entrance with an extended plaza that ends in a stairway leading to the parking level. President Ron Davis says that the approximately 100,000-square-foot building will be something Warsaw can be proud of.
A senior citizen’s activity center may soon be located in Lucerne Park connected to the Pete Thorn building. The current senior building would be extended on the east side and share a gymnasium and kitchen with the Pete Thorn building.
Effective June 30, Dr. Kent Adams will resign as director of finance for Warsaw Community Schools to devote more time to the Indiana Legislature.

Triton sixth-grader Marcia Gottschalk was named grand champion of the Bourbon Elementary science fair. Runners-up were Janice Gottschalk, fourth grade; Nathan Faulkner, third grade; Joyce Wiedeman, sixth grade.
Wilda Garman, who operates a Marathon Service Station in Claypool, has received a gold charm bracelet from the Marathon Oil Company in commemoration of her 35 years as a dealer. Her station has been in continuous operation, under the same management, longer than any other Marathon station in Indiana.
Thornton Zimmerman was honored March 19 with a birthday cake and coffee as he was on his job in the shipping department of Warsaw Foundry Co., and was congratulated by William Petro Jr., president, and Ralph A. Garber, foreman. He has been employed at the foundry for 18 years.

Lloyd Silveus, a farmer residing near Cook’s Chapel about four miles southwest of Warsaw, sold 20 hogs averaging 258 pounds to the East End Stock yards. The heaviest of the lot weighed 335 pounds, Ben Prather, manager of the stock yards reported. The hogs were self-fed on shelled corn and a mixture of ground corn, ground oats and tankage, and a special ingredient. They had a free run to a creek and were well-quartered at night.
The Warsaw Junior Chamber of Commerce is drumming up a crowd for a two-hour vaudeville show they have planned for Wednesday night at the high school auditorium. Admission is 35 cents.
