10 Years Ago Pint-sized violinist Rebecca Benjamin played to perfection Nov. 16 during a Young Artist’s Competition for the Fort Wayne Philharmonic. Her prize is three up-coming performances with the orchestra. The 8-year-old homeschooled student from Warsaw is the daughter of Bryan and Marie Benjamin. Rebecca began playing violin at the age of 3, taught by Joy Karesh, formerly of Syracuse and now of South Bend. 25 Years Ago Although it had been proposed as a small neighborhood park, a number of area residents are now asking for McKinley Park to include a sports area. More than 50 residents have filled out surveys stating their preference for the park, said Judge James Jarrette during a recent park board meeting. “They’re asking for anything from a quiet neighborhood park to a sports facility,” he said. A nine-block area has been surveyed although a tally hasn’t been made of what is desired by the largest number of people. 50 Years Ago The sleek Brunswick Bahama Offshore Comboard is the Warsaw fiberglass boat maker’s entry in the seventh annual Miami-Nassau Ocean Power Boat Race scheduled for April 24. The man at the helm will be “Bulldog” Drummond Mussett, former RAF fighter pilot war hero and veteran boat racing driver. Brunswick Boats, a division of the Brunswick Corporation, has its headquarters in Warsaw. 75 Years Ago Mrs. Elizabeth Hines and Miss Kathryn Gibson, of Evanston, Ill., returned recently to resume their studies at Northwestern University after spending the Easter vacation in Warsaw with the former’s mother, Mrs. Vesta Hines, and family. Mr. and Mrs. Logan H. Williams recently returned from Miami, Fla., where they spent the winter months.
