    The Ramada Plaza Hotel Women's Bridge Group met recently with eight tables playing. Winners were: Ione Jonas, Erma Swank, Jean Pritchard, Barbara Gigilotti, Mary Derry, Mary Eherenman, Louise Lamoree and Wanda McSherry.

April 18 1984

    Julie A. James, 17-year-old daughter of Harold E. and Gini James, Warsaw, was crowned the first Miss Indiana American Co-Ed at a pageant in the Indianapolis Hilton Hotel recently.

James was among 115 contestants from throughout the state.

50 Years Ago

April 18 1959

    Nancy Camden, of the Winona Minor 49ers 4-H club, won the club talent contest held recently at the home of Elaine Munson. She presented a comic reading.

The runner-up was Donna Shaffner, who died a pantomime skit.

75 Years Ago

April 18 1934

    Today marks the 20th anniversary of the disastrous Winona fire (April 18, 1914), in which 23 houses were destroyed. Dynamite was finally resorted to by blowing up a number of buildings in order to check further progress of the flames.
