10 Years Ago Jessie Leiter, 7, selected a pea seed to plant in her carton garden recently. Leiter, a Burket Elementary first-grader, attended the Taste of Agriculture event at the Kosciusko County Fairgrounds, saying “yuck” to the suggestion she plant green beans. Master Gardeners sponsored a booth allowing patrons to plant a variety of herbs and vegetable seeds. More than $500 in door prizes were awarded. 25 Years Ago Ever felt like you just couldn’t get away from work? REMC employee Gary Himes does. It seems last weekend he was called in on a slight emergency repair at the REMC building but when he got inside he couldn’t get back out. Himes had locked himself in the building and was forced to call a lineman for help. Does that count as overtime? 50 Years Ago Dr. Carl Shrader, president of the “Y” board of directors, and Earl Schwalm, president of the Lincoln National Bank, Fort Wayne, delivered informative addresses to the 125 persons in attendance at the Kosciusko Community YMCA’s first annual dinner at the Winona Lake Hotel recently. They hope to increase funds for building purposes. 75 Years Ago Wellington Klingel, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Klinger, Warsaw, is a popular student at Ashland (Ohio) College. He is a member of the sophomore class. Klingel is a secretary-treasurer of the campus YMCA and is an honor student. He is also a member of the college chorus. This week Klingel was elected president of the college YMCA for the year 1938-39.
