    Robert Hudson’s drawing “Jake” was named best of show at the Lakeland Art Association’s 2002 Spring Show. More than 100 artists competed for prizes in eight categories along with student and scholarship divisions. Mathew Heimen, a $100 scholarship winner, had three entries.
   The first annual Celebration of Arts and Culture will be held in the Eagles Building in downtown Warsaw. Organizing committee member are Linda Dilling, Sally Hogan, James Mannan and Eugenia Fulkerson.

    A resident who was instrumental in development of the community park was selected as “Citizen of the Year” during the 14th annual Pierceton Community Chamber of Commerce banquet. Delbert E. Caudill, Pierceton, headed the Pierceton park board from 1974 to 1961 when a bare tract of land was transformed into a facility widely used by the community for softball, baseball and other activities. Bill Warren made the presentation on behalf of the chamber of commerce.

    Mike Kelly, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Kelly, Warsaw, has been named to the director’s list for outstanding work at Herron School of Art, Indianapolis. He is a freshman in commercial art.
  Robert Anderson is a member of the “Marching Matadors” at Ball State Teachers College, which participated in Cherry Blossom festival in Washington, D.C., April 5. Anderson, a freshman, is the son of Robert Anderson, Leesburg, and is a graduate at Leesburg High School.

    The Relocation of Ind. 13 between Pierceton and Syracuse and through other sections of northern Indiana has been abandoned by the state, according to George Xanders, Syracuse attorney. The state claims it does not now want the right-of-way on the Warner property, which would have taken more than five acres of ground, and the offer has been withdrawn.
