April 17 1999

    Six Akron Elementary School students were awarded trophies as winners or runners-up in the 1998-99 Warsaw Elks 802 Hoop Shoot competition. Heidi Bruner was the champion in the girls age 10/11 division, and Chelsea Eaton was the champion in the girls age 8/9 division. Amber Graves and Steven Tillman finished as runners-up in the 8/9 divisions, and Megan Ramsey and Bryce Kelley were runners-up in the 10/11 divisions.

April 17 1984

    Three light and fluffy tortes were the winners in the Pastry and Torte category of the fourth-annual Times-Union Recipe Contest Taste-Off recently at The View Point Restaurant.

Carolyn Zimmerman, Milford, took first place with her Vienna Torte, followed by Beverly Rhoads' Meringue Torte and Mary Parr's Cloud Seven Torte.

April 17 1959

    Marva McClure, Nancy Longfellow, Dale Martin and Jerry Aylor received checks from the Warsaw American Legion Auxiliary for submitting the best entries in its "Americanism Essay" contest. Nancy took first and Marva second in the girls' division. Dale was first and Jerry second in the boys' division. Dale and Nancy's essays are entered in the district contest.

    ROCHESTER - George Foster of this city, who caught for the Rochester Merchants baseball team for several seasons, has been sent to the Fort Wayne team of the Central League by the Indianapolis American Association baseball club who owns him.
