    Warsaw Community High School senior Stephanie Ellis, daughter of Lynn Feldman and Lanny Ellis, both of Warsaw, has been named a National Merit Scholar and will receive the R.R. Donnelley & Sons merit scholarship.

Ellis is one of 1,100 high school seniors across the United States who will receive a corporate-sponsored merit scholarship.

    WEST LAFAYETTE - The Purdue University chapter of Phi Kappa Phi national scholastic honor society has initiated 332 new members.

New members of the Purdue chapter include: Rainer Guy Blessing and Cherrill Ann Smith, both of Warsaw, and Dane O. Jervis, Atwood.

April 16 1957

    Warsaw's pride and joy of the track world - Max Truex - owns the National Collegiate record for the two-mile run after a dual meet between Southern California and Occidental.

His winning time of 8:55 was also the fourth-fastest two miles ever run by an American. (The old NCAA record of 8:57.7 was set by USC's Fernando Ledesma in Berkeley, Calif., on June 21, 1955.)

    TALMA - While hauling fertilizer at his farm near Talma, Carey Clymer uncovered a leather pocketbook which he had lost during the summer of 1929. Several bills and pieces of silver contained in the purse were not damaged by the long exposure to the elements.
