Kosciusko County Archaeology Society chairman Bill Wilson says county historian Ron Sharp founded the organization because there were historical sites in the county that were not recorded. There are 10 known sites where mastodon bones have been found. Potawatomie Indian villages lay along the Tippecanoe River in the central part of the county. We salute the 1940 sectional basketball tourney champs, the green and white clad Mentone Bulldogs. What a fine game they and the Beaver Dam Beavers put on, winning the admiration of every spectator. The Beaver Dam boys ran into hard luck with there seemingly a lid on the basket.  Both were smooth, clean-playing squads, and the county would have been proud to send either team as Kosciusko's representative of the hardwood to Auburn. Bulldog captain Ike Shirey was carried to the dressing room on the shoulders of his teammates, while adoring fans clamored to their sides for back-slapping congratulations, shouting "On to Auburn!"
