10 Years Ago The Warsaw Tiger Wrestling Club traveled to Bellmont High School in Decatur recently for an ISWA Freestyle wrestling tournament. The Tigers took seven wrestlers and returned to Warsaw with five first-place finishes. As a club the team finished the day with a score of 64, and Andy Keener (Schoolboy 130), Adam Keener (Schoolboy 105), Matt Elvidge (Schoolboy 115), Kent Nielson (Schoolboy 90) and James Leeper (Novice 105) all earned first-place finishes. Robert Raymer finished third in the junior 145, and Bobby Derbyshire finished fifth in the same weight class. 25 Years Ago Warsaw Community High School’s girls track team posted its second easy win of the week as it ripped visiting Triton 97-17 recently. The Tigers’ leading trackster was Krista Hanft as she was the only Warsaw individual to pick up four first places. In the 400 relay, Hanft teamed up with Kim Harrison, Teresa Smith and Kelly Cook. The team ended in a time of 53.1. In the 1600 relay, Hanft was joined by Andrea Halpin, Smith and Angie Johnson. 50 Years Ago Ken Beer, a junior in Milford High School, has been named winner of the Kosciusko County Veterans of Foreign Wars’ essay contest. Beer will receive a $25 savings bond and compete in a district contest. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Beer of Milford. Young Beer is president of his class and the speech club, and maintains an “A” scholastic average. 75 Years Ago Four junior leaders of the Kosciusko County 4-H clubs have been selected to attend the Kiwanis Junior Leadership camp to be held at Indianapolis next month. Those attending from this county will be Mary Mellott, Etna township; Helen Louise Wine, Washington township; James B. Beeson, Harrison township; and Tim Shoemaker, Seward township.
