10 Years Ago It was the first time they played together in front of a crowd. Yet North Manchester band Funkalicious wowed the crowd and judges enough to take first place recently in the Third annual MC Palooza at Manchester College. Members of Funkalicious are Chris Good, Ben Long, Rob Seward and Justin Peterson. For winning the contest, Funkalicious will get approximately three hours of free studio time.
25 Years Ago Mark Schmidt, a Warsaw Community High School senior is one of 40 seniors selected to the Indiana Academic All-Star team. The first state academic all-star team is sponsored by the Indiana Department of Education, the Committee for Indiana Academic Competitions for Excellence and the Indianapolis Star. The son of Marvin and Marjo Schmidt, Warsaw, Schmidt was one of 316 students nominated for the honor. Selection was based on grades and SAT scores.
50 Years Ago Our town is getting some publicity this week with the 20,000,000 readers of the Saturday Evening Post. For the first time since Brunswick Boats moved their headquarters here, the city of Warsaw appears in the signature of their four color national ad for Owens Boats. In addition, Brunswick’s Cutter brand is in 7,000,000 copies of LOOK magazine this week, parts of which are printed in Warsaw by R.R. Donnelley and Sons. “Warsaw” is in small print, but it’s there and will be in all Brunswick Boat ads in a total of 50 million magazines this year.
75 Years Ago Mr. and Mrs. Harry Edgington, Miss Mamie Edgington and Miss Maxine Pittenger accompanied Harry Bloomer and Miss Pat Shane representing Warsaw High School, to Fort Wayne, where the latter two competed in a Kosciusko County spelling contest which was broadcast over WOWO Fort Wayne. Mrs. Merle Scoles and Mrs. Ralph Fifer motored recently to Bloomington. They were accompanied by Miss Dorothy Scoles who will resume studies at Indiana University after spending the spring vacation here with her parents.
