The appointments, announced at Friday’s Warsaw Board of Works meeting, follow Dick Hamman’s announcement in March that he was retiring from the superintendent’s position. Hamman served 15 years as park superintendent. 50 Years Ago Mr. and Mrs. Don Byrd (he is pro-owner of the Wawasee golf course) recently returned from a trip to Europe. Byrd won a five-weeks trip to Europe by virtue of one of his members, Howard Putman, of Syracuse, making a hole-in-one in 1961. The Golf Digest sponsors a contest each year, awarding 15 trips to golf pros whose members make a hole-in-one. The Wawasee pro and his wife toured Scotland, and other places of interest in Europe. Included also was a visit to East and West Berlin. 75 Years Ago Dr. and Mrs. Max Garber, Dr. and Mrs. W.A. Gassway and Glenn Smith attended the professional basketball game recently between the Purdue all-stars and the New York Celtics at the North Side High School gymnasium, Fort Wayne. Lester Whiteman returned recently to Chicago where he is a student at the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts. He visited this week at Winona Lake with his mother, Mrs. J.H. Whiteman.
