10 Years Ago Jerry and Kathy Landrum, Winona Lake, will serve as staff on the Geilenkirchen Club Beyond Service Project to Poland. The trip will be headed by their daughter, Beth, a Club Beyond/Youth for Christ staff worker in Germany. The project will also include a team of 50 youths, chaperones and adult staff from three U.S. military and NATO bases across Germany. They will travel to Lwowek Slaski, Poland, to build a playground at the Elim Christian Ministry and provide a vacation Bible school ministry in local schools. Kathy will be the head cook for the trip, and Jerry will serve as media coordinator for video and sound needs. Triton Jr.-Sr. High School, Bourbon, will present “Grease” April 1-3. Levi Mikel and Hannah Bessinger have the starring roles of Danny and Sandy. 25 Years Ago Groundbreaking ceremonies for the two-story addition to the Syracuse Public Library were held March 26. The lower level allows expansion of the children’s library and public meeting room. The second story will expand the main library and house the new Syracuse/Turkey Creek Township Museum. Norman Dukes, son of Mary Ann and the late Dr. Norvin Lewis Jr., Leesburg, and a 1965 Leesburg High School graduate, earned the Silver Beaver Award from the Middle Tennessee Council of Boy Scouts, the highest honor a council can bestow upon a volunteer. He began his scouting career in Warsaw, becoming an assistant scoutmaster. He and his wife moved to Tennessee in 1977. Former Warsaw resident Duane Snyder earned a Silver Beaver Award in South Bend. He was a scoutmaster for 26 years. 50 Years Ago Warsaw Community High School delegates to Boys State June 12-19: Ronnie Barsh, Tom Johnston, Terry Sumpter and Bob Glant. Alternates: Phil Morphew, Jim Maze, Denny Rasor and Duane Huffer. For the second straight year, the Talma Tigers are the champions of Kosciusko County junior high basketball after downing Sidney 51-36 in the title game of the tournament at Claypool. The Talma Junior High School was formed two years ago when it became a part of the Tippecanoe Valley schools. David Bushong, Boy Scout Troop 28, Syracuse, advanced from Star to Life Scout, the highest honor a Scout can receive next to the Eagle. Terry Miller advanced to Star. 75 Years Ago Warsaw High School senior class play try-outs are next week. The school will discontinue use of the Centennial Theatre and stage reviews at the new school auditorium. Doris Vaughn, 16, senior, daughter of Mrs. C.H. Vaughn, of Atwood, has been leading cheers for the Atwood congregation for 10 years, starting as mascot and four years in high school as a varsity member of the squad. Never, within the past decade, has she missed any rip-roaring county and sectional hardwood fracases. Speeding motorists, watch for school pupil bicyclists around 11:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. as they ride home. Sixteen boy pedalists were counted recently on daily trip to East Warsaw hospital as they rode home for a noon snack.
