10 Years Ago Fourteen students in the Ivy Tech Fast Track to Orthopedics program graduated March 29. The course began Jan. 7 with training for an entry-level position within the orthopedic industry. Graduates were: Ronald Bame, Eric Bowman, Matthew Cassel, Melissa Cretcher, Michael Dersch, Mark Dunn, Roy Goodsell, Jerald Kipker, Erik Klinger, Michael Sites, William Slone, Elaine Snyder, Raymond Washburn, and Christopher Winterrowd. Also in the group photo were Joy McCarthy-Sessing, president of Warsaw/Kosciusko County Chamber of Commerce, who spoke at the graduation ceremony, and Joann Walgamuth, executive dean of Ivy Tech Warsaw.
25 Years Ago The Warsaw Community High softball team opened its season successfully with a 1-0 victory over Mishawaka. The 12th ranked Lady Tigers included: Terri Harmon, Jennie Vanderpool, DeDe Bartol, Brooke Howard, Ranai Phillips and Vicki Phillips. Also, Gwen Music, Ginnette Dunwell, Amy Kinsey, Leah Lozier, Heather Bradford, Ginger Frauhiger and Tara Smith. Manager Liza Howett, Julie Hoppus, Jennie Sanders, Joy Fick, Heather Cook, Kelly Dunwell, assistant coach Christi Harmon and head coach Bryon Weinstein.
50 Years Ago Mr. and Mrs. Marion Goshorn of Leesburg get their most important mail these days from air bases in Germany and California where their sons are stationed. Airman second class William Goshorn, who will be 25 July 16, has been in Germany since February, 1961. Bill enlisted in January, 1960, took his technical training at Lowry AFB, Denver, Colo., and spent some time at Orlando, Fla., before he was assigned to 587th missile maintenance squadron in Germany. A 1956 graduate of Leesburg High School, Bill was employed by Zimmer Manufacturing Company and in the art department of the L.M. Berry Company. His brother Airman Douglas Goshorn, 23, was graduated from Leesburg High School in 1957, enlisted in April, 1961, and chose the field of electronics. He completed the bomb navigation course at Lowry AFB and is now assigned at Castle AFB, Merced, Calif.
75 Years Ago Fourteen members of the Lambda Chi Omega sorority met recently with Miss Mildred Chapman. Plans were made to purchase eye glasses for eight school children. Other business matters were discussed. A party will be enjoyed in two weeks at the home of Miss Elvira Hartsock, Warsaw. Grover Sims returned recently to Winona Lake after attending the North Central Music supervisors convention this week at Hotel Nicollet, Minneapolis, Minn.
