10 Years Ago The Wawasee gymnastics team traveled to Valparaiso to compete in the regional. The Warriors placed fourth out of six teams. Chesterton, Merrillville and Valparaiso ranked 1-2-3 to the state, snatched the first three places at the regional. Two Warriors advanced to the state finals in individual events. Hannah Marshall placed sixth on both the balance beam and the vault to make the state finals. Lindsay Olson placed sixth in the floor exercise to move on as well.
25 Years Ago Wawasee repeated as girls sectional gymnastics champions recently, edging Warsaw for top team honors at Syracuse. Team members included Principal Ned Speicher, head coach Tracy Sumpter, Nicole Iwankowitsch, Tressa Littleton, Sherry Daniels, Anne Pohl, Shelly Daniels, Sabe Vale, Julie Schmahl, Julie Gunn, assistant coach Kathie Yoder and assistant principal Donn Kesler.
50 Years Ago Achievement book winners in the County 4-H Junior Division received their awards at the Officers Training School held recently at Warsaw High School. They are: Carol Tuttle, Pierceton; Jon Roberts, Syracuse; Barbara Boggs, Pierceton; Roger Smoker, Leesburg; and Pat Lucas, county 4-H leader for girls work. These four youngsters were in the honor group of the junior division. Twenty 4-H clubs received 100 percent attendance awards for having all their club officers present at the officers training school.
75 Years Ago Earth tremblors more severe than those experienced here a week ago shook buildings, houses and rattled dishes in homes throughout Warsaw, Winona Lake and other parts of the county and was cause for considerable alarm last night. The Times was deluged with telephone calls and callers aroused from sleep who inquired as to what caused the tremors. Persons attending the Centennial Theatre also became frightened and thought perhaps the balcony would collapse. The entire shock lasted a full 10 seconds.
