    MERRILLVILLE - NiSource, formerly known as Northern Indiana Public Service Co., has appointed Julia C. Van De Water as the public affairs representative for the counties of Fulton, Kosciusko, Marshall, Pulaski and Starke effective March 15.

Van De Water is one of 10 public affairs representatives throughout NiSource's 32-county service territory who serve as contacts between NiSource and community leaders, customers and local media.

    POTPOURRI - Top Award - Local residents Paul Kingston and Dorothy Hogan were recently named Sacred Heart Church's "Man and Woman Of The Year." Kingston has counted money collected after mass, while Hogan has been the organist and has taught the children's choir at the local church for several years.

    Plans were announced by North Manchester School officials for ground-breaking services to be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday for the new high school building.

Construction of the new high school will start at once. The new building will be at the corner of Market and Ninth streets.

    Glenn G. Smith, of South Detroit and South streets, proprietor of the Smith Shoe hospital, announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination as candidate for mayor of the city of Warsaw.
