10 Years Ago Playing Indiana's most storied sport, Lakeland Christian Academy's varsity girls basketball team wrote its own chapter of Hoosier Hysteria Saturday. With a thrilling 47-45 win over Restoration Christian of Sellersburg at Grace College's Lancer Gym, the Cougars won their first Association of Christian Schools International Division I state title at the varsity level. The two-point win improved the Cougars, winners in eight of their last 11 games, to 10-8 on the season.
25 Years Ago The Warsaw Community High School cast of "Bye, Bye, Birdie" recently worked with professional choreographer Grace Aiello from Chicago. Mrs. Aiello donated her time to work with principle actors and the company of '50s teens for some of the large musical numbers, "Put on a Happy Face," "Telephone Hour" and "Everything is Rosie." The WCHS Spring All-School Musical will be presented April 10 and 11.
50 Years Ago Miss Marilyn Simpson, daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. Vernon N. Simpson, Warsaw, received her nurse's cap in special capping services held recently in the Wesley Memorial School of Nursing at Chicago. Marilyn, a 1961 graduate of Warsaw High School, is in her first year of nursing school.
Miss Judy Fisher of Warsaw will fly to Lake Placid, Fla., for a 10-day vacation with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John H. Fisher.
75 Years Ago Mr. and Mrs. Earl Coplen, of Burket, are the parents of an 8-1/2-pound daughter, Martha Jo, born Wednesday morning, March 3, at the McDonald Hospital. Mr. Coplen is postmaster at Burket.
Mr. and Mrs. E.A. Gast, and Mr. and Mrs. David Gast left recently for Jackson, Miss., and Hot Springs, Ark.
