    Tippecanoe Valley seniors Leslie Miller, Jody Yochum, Lori Gray, Darcy Jordan, Leena Harrakainen and Angie Flenar walked away with most of the awards at the girls' basketball award banquet. The six helped to lead the Vikings to a fine 15-4 record this season.

3/31 1973

    Workmen began dismantling the nearly 100-year-old bridge spanning Trimble Creek at Palestine. The steel truss span, estimated at 95 feet, was closed because it became unsafe for travel. For many years the Palestine Mill, nearby, was run by water power from the creek.

3/31 1948

    Neighbors and friends assisted Paul Hollar, of Hasting, at an old-fashioned barn raising under the direction of Otto Beer, architect. Following the barn raising, everyone was served ice cream.


75 Years Ago
3/31 1923

    The world's record for early membership in the Methodist Church is held by S. Bob Whittenberger, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wade Whittenberger, of Claypool. The record of membership, eight seconds after birth, lowered the former world's mark of 16 seconds, held by a child in the West.
