    Wawasee High School recently named its winter sports award winners. Capturing most valuable players honors were Heather Lamb (cheerleading, blanket award), Ryan Harper (boys swimming), Ken Lawrence (cheerleading), Cathy Beer (girls basketball), Jenny Marty (girls swimming), Jared Mahnensmith (boys basketball) and Tierny Prather (gymnastics).

    Steven Sittler, a junior earth sciences major at Indiana Central University, has been named the recipient of the William R. Gommel Award for Excellence in Atmospheric Science and Mathematics.

Steve is the son of Thomas and Patricia Sittler, Silver Lake. He graduated from Warsaw Community High School in 1979.

March 30 1957

    Mel Lora, who lived in Warsaw 16 years, carried papers and worked in the Warsaw Times-Union circulation department, will be listed in the new issue of Who's Who in American University and Colleges. Mel is a senior and president of the student body at Pacific Bible College in Azusa, Calif., soloist and student director of the a cappella choir, and is employed as a minister of music in Faith Community Church in Pomona, Calif.

    Ruth Orn entertained with a bridge and rook party at her home in Leesburg, in honor of her 16th birthday. Winners of high scores were Russell Orn, in bridge, and Mary Plank, in rook. Consolation went to Iva Marie Stookey, in bridge, and Erma Stackhouse, in rook.
