10 Years Ago State Sen. Kent Adams (R-Warsaw) wrote a resolution Thursday to honor the memory of U.S. Marine Lance Cpl. David Fribley. Adams was joined by all 49 of his Senate colleagues. Senate Concurrent Resolution 45 memorializes and honors Fribley, the first Indiana native killed in action during Operation Iraqi Freedom. On the senate floor, Adams spoke a few words that Fribley had said to his father, Garry Fribley, regarding the war in Iraq: “Conditions here are worse than you can imagine ... this dictator or regime must be stopped.” 25 Years Ago Eighty-five students in grades two through six participated in Warsaw Christian School’s Science fair March 28-29. The fair was held in the school’s gymnasium in Warsaw. Julianne Tucker, fifth-grade student at Warsaw Christian, received the Judge’s Grand Prize Award. Other blue winners at the fair were Adam Clemens, Michelle Loher, Shawn Schlag, Alicia Curry, Jeremy Jones, Brant Burns, Beth Long, Charlie Robison, Ryan Plank, Stephen Hoffert, Julianne Tucker, Nathan Zaugg, Aaron Jones, Robert Lee, Elliot Metzger, Jeanine Bowdler. 50 Years Ago The 12 finalists in the Kosciusko County seventh-eighth grade spelling contest just before starting their spelldown that was broadcast over WRSW and WRSW-FM were: Janice Flora, Pierceton; Joanne Merkle, Claypool; Valerie Elliott, Warsaw Junior High; Kathy Murray, Syracuse; Dana Musser, Milford; and Lynn Flenar, Beaver Dam; Carol Houck, Leesburg; Sara Beth Creighton, Burket; Mary Conway, North Webster; Darlene Whitaker, Sidney; Terry Klingerman, Etna Green; and Mike Arnold, Silver Lake. 75 Years Ago Bobby Howe, Winona Lake, successfully defended his title as champion table tennis player of the Warsaw Boy’s Club by defeating Norman Melick in the finals by scores of 21-19 and 21-8. Twenty-four boys took part in the playoff.
