10 Years Ago Michael Schlitt, Manchester High School teacher and Warsaw native, is one of 12 educators nationwide chosen to travel to Russia on a 12-day study tour. The group will visit the Russian Ministry of Education, schools and businesses in hopes of observing and promoting free market economics. Schlitt, an economics, world history and government teacher, is excited to embark upon the tour, which will put him in direct contact with his Russian counterparts. 25 Years Ago Two Warsaw Community High School DECA members, Brook Bumgardner and Mark Killingbeck, qualified to attend the National DECA Conference in Salt Lake City later this year. Bumgardner and Killingbeck were among 22 Warsaw DECA members competing at the state DECA Conference in Indianapolis March 18-20. Bumgardner was elected District II president for 1988-89. Killingbeck qualified for the National DECA Conference by placing fifth in the general marketing competitive event. He competed against more than 60 other district winners from the entire state. 50 Years Ago Frank Brennan has received a plaque from the Indiana Pharmaceutical Association commending his 50 years of service as a licensed pharmacist in Indiana. Midshipman First Class Terry A. Abell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Abell, of Warsaw, has been named to the superintendent’s list for the first half of the second term of the academic year at the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Md. 75 Years Ago Senior winners of the 1938 intramural tourney, the Golden Bears, were dinner guests of Wesley Light recently at Gill’s Grill. Those present were Gordon Heagy, William Hankins, Berwyn Blue, Charles Burgh, Benny Lake, Robert Zimmer, Cloice Yeiter, Bob Light, Bear captain, and Mike Light, coach.
