Sharlie Kleem, Brittany Dome and Bridget Dawson represented the Girl Scouts from Pierceton who donated 10 handmade fleece blankets to residents at Mason’s Health Care Center.
Lincoln students Ben and Daniel Hudson participated in the District Media Fair Feb. 26. Both boys won “Best of Category” and will advance to state competition.
Five years ago, EdCom Expo (Educational Communications Exposition), Warsaw’s annual celebration of student learning, started as an experiment at Edgewood Middle School with six public schools participating. In 2005, every  school and home school will have presenters March 26. Washington Elementary School Hornets have led the way in EdCom participation each of the five years.

Warsaw players who have scored 500 points or more in a single season according to Times-Union records going back to the 1959-60 season are Jeff Grose, 1985, 726 points; Ron Brandenburg, 1981, 706; Jeff Grose, 1984, 605; Mike Niles, 1966, 575; Brian Elliott, 1990, 559; Steve Reed, 1977, 558; Steve Reed, 1976, 519; Rick Fox, 1986, 507; Randy Heisler, 1980, 504; Marty Lehman, 1984, 501. For 1990, Jason Zimmerman and Brian Elliott are the top individual career scoring leaders with 924 and 810 points respectively.
Whitko Wildcats boys basketball team are going to the semistate for the first time. Senior guard Chad Patrick took a pass from teammate Scott Adams at the top of the key and swished a 16-foot leaner with five seconds left. Whitko took a 76-74 lead over Fort Wayne Northside to win the Fort Wayne Regional. After nine  previous trips, Coach Bill Patrick, Chad’s father, gets a chance to cut down a piece of the net.

The Warsaw Tigers were purring loud after their sectional tournament victory over Pierceton last night 62-47, giving them their first championship in nine years. Last Wednesday night’s blizzard had delayed the tournament, but it did not dampen the spirits of players, students and adult fans. The Tigers, Terry Yeiter, Ronnie Barsh, Steve Hepler, Bill Wiley, John Beebe, Mike Niles, Greg Lancaster, Mike “Deacon” Chambers, Jim Webster and Ben Niles will take on Penn, winner of the Elkhart sectional, for the Elkhart regional. Head coach is Ralph “Boag” Johnson and assistant is Burt Niles.
Mr. Bunnell, teacher, appeared at the victory program in the auditorium next morning wearing paint-decorated “cords” to fulfill a promise made if the Tigers won the sectional. Congratulatory remarks were made by Superintendent Carl Burt and others.

The new Leesburg High School gymnasium was dedicated Feb. 21. Mary Brubaker, president of the Parent-Teachers Association, presided over the program arranged by Mrs. Dale Metz. Members of early basketball teams on the program were Erva Hearn, 1924 championship team, and Herbert A. Dye, Winona Lake, who was largely responsible for organizing Leesburg’s first high school basketball team. Harry Lewallen, county superintendent of schools, was speaker.
A week from today starts Kosciusko County’s sectional tourney with Syracuse’s Yellow Jackets, 1940 county cage champions, defending their gold crown.
Robert Gast, Robert Towns, Robert Oram and Richard Rankin, Warsaw High School, introduced by Principal Loren Chastain, spoke on the life of George Washington to the Kiwanis Club at the Hotel Hays.
