10 Years Ago MIke Miller, a 1982 Warsaw Community High School graduate and a member of the 1981 boys state finalist team, will be doing a commercial during the boys basketball state tourney today. It will be for the Indiana Members Credit Union, of which Miller is an executive vice president. Also in the commercial are his two children, Emily, 9, and Zach, 7. They live in Brownsburg and he and his wife, Dana, have another daughter, Molly, 3. MikeÕs parents are Max and Chearyl Miller of Leesburg. 25 Years Ago The Mentone School gym was filled with more than 385 projects from students in kindergarten through the eighth grade in last weekÕs sixth annual science fair. Among the projects was eighth grader Vernon OsburnÕs exhibit about earthquakes. His project was controlled electrically by hand and showed minor and major tremors and, finally, the collapse of buildings. John Waymire is the assistant principal. 50 Years Ago Four Mentone High School students received major awards at the athletic banquet recently at the school gym. Honorees were: Dave Teel, outstanding baseball hitter with an average of .500; Jerry Blackburn, good sportsmanship award for basketball; MaDonna (Susy) Nellans, four-year cheerleader; and Bill Nellans, best free throw shooting percentage for basketball with a mark of 77 per cent. An estimated 500 persons attended the banquet, which honored MentoneÕs county and sectional championship basketball squad and athletes of all other sports. 75 Years Ago Mr. and Mrs. William Chinworth of Warsaw attended the evening session of the Elkhart-Kosciusko County Sunday school convention held recently at Syracuse. Dr. J. Raymond Schutz of North Manchester was speaker for the evening. Mr. and Mrs. S.M. Demaree of Warsaw who have spent the past three months at Tampa, Fla., returned recently to their home in Warsaw.
