10 Years Ago Charles Lee, son of David and Marcia Lee, Warsaw, has signed to play soccer at Grace College with coach Ray Danielian. He had a 3.9 grade-point average at Lakeland Christian Academy. Wawasee graduate Dave Wollman was inducted into the Indiana Interscholastic Track and Cross Country Coaches Hall of Fame. Current track coach Scott Lancaster nominated him. Nicholas Jansen, second-grade student at Sacred Heart, became the third grade and under co-chess champion for Indiana Jan. 2. He finished with 10 wins and one draw. 25 Years Ago The Washington Hornets won both the boys and girls Warsaw Community School Corp. elementary championships at the Tiger Den. In the girls final, Washington defeated the Jefferson Trojans 24-20. Angie Lutes led the way with 11 points; Annie Beam added seven. In the boys’ final, Jefferson battled Washington down to the final gun before losing 31-28. Tom Krizmanich hit a free throw with 1:54 left to play; Zachery Dock hit a basket to put his team up by three. Dock led in scoring with nine points. Army Pvt. Teresa L. George, Warsaw, has been named “Soldier of the Month” based on her exemplary duty performance, job knowledge, leadership qualities, significant self improvement and other accomplishments. She is a finance specialist with the 17th Finance and Support Unit in West Germany and 1987 graduate of Warsaw Community High School. 50 Years Ago The Courthouse clock is being repaired and will be out of service for about 10 days, according to County Commissioner Ray Ferverda. The gears in the clock needed to be replaced after more than 80 years of service. Three Warsaw High School seniors qualified for state competition with their solos at the district vocal contests held Feb. 6 at Franklin Junior High School in Fort Wayne. They were Paul Benson and Dave Martin, baritones; Carol Zitterbart, soprano. Harry C. Saunders, Wooster Road, assumed duties Feb. 10 as third deputy sheriff of Kosciusko County, replacing first deputy, Max Ganshorn, who resigned Saturday. David Andrews and Roger Fellows have been promoted to the rank of first and second deputies respectively; H.Earl Boggs continues as clerk. 75 Years Ago Plans for enlarging the East Wayne School at Winona Lake have been abandoned as unneccessary, Floyd Robbins, Wayne Township trustee said. Until last fall, enrollments had increased, and the four regular recitation rooms were crowded and a narrow room had been used as an overflow recitation room. Robbins suggested enlarging this room; blue prints were drawn; the plans were not looked upon with favor by state authorities at Indianapolis, who said that if recitation rooms were over-crowded, some of the pupils should be enrolled in Warsaw schools. Since this visit, enrollment at East Wayne has decreased by 12.
