10 Years Ago Cardinal Center CEO and president, Jane Greene, announced the hiring of Jay Tate as the new general manager of Cardinal Center Industries. Promoted at Chore-Time Brock, Milford, were Todd Cullen, Anita Ramer and Harold R. Seib. For the third time in eight years, the Warsaw Community High School Percussion Ensemble placed first in the Concert World Class Division at the Indiana Percussion Association State Finals at Ben Davis High School, Indianapolis. WCHS previously won in 1997 and 2001, placing second three times and third place twice. Their program, “The Deep End,” was arranged by band director Mickey Ratliff. 25 Years Ago Grace College Lady Lancers will compete in their first-ever National Christian College Athletic Association national tournament in Cleveland, Tenn. Team members are Chandra Hall, Murle Eldridge, Jill Conley, Beth Feldman, Lois Butler, Julie Zuidema, Cheryl Myers, Angie Flenar, Nicole Ryman, Loreen Maierle, Cindy Younis, Rachel Grose and Linny Schroeder. Head coach is Jerry Ryman; Don Fowler and Angie Ryman are assistant coaches. Students at several elementary schools in Warsaw were vaccinated to prevent the spread of measles. Adrienne Smalley, first-grader at Lincoln, received her vaccine. Wawasee Schools Corporation recorded two cases of measles, and continues to be under quarantine until March 13. Science fair winners at Warsaw Middle School are Brennin Shepherd, Jennifer Kintzel, Lane Armey, Leif Hall, Katrina Kingery and Laura Refior. Science teacher is Roger Haeck. 50 Years Ago Capt. Robert Robinson, commander of Company A, Indiana National Guard unit in Warsaw, received a citation from the military for the great response of his men in reporting for duty during a recent National Guard alert; 91 percent of the 55 men in Company A reported to the armory within two hours after the alert was sounded. The state-wide figure is 79 percent in a three-hour period. Former Warsaw school teacher Kent Adams, who turned down a teaching profession to become a state trooper, is working out of the Fort Wayne sub-post of the Ligonier barracks. He is following in his father’s footsteps, the late Roy Adams, who was a respected Warsaw policeman for a number of years. Grace Ebersole is a student teacher in the home economics department of Milford High School. She graduates from Goshen College in June. 75 Years Ago Claypool High School cage quintet took an easy victory over Washington Center at Claypool by a score of 42 to 27. The game was a playoff of a game postponed two weeks ago because of bad roads. Shively, forward, was high point man with 14. The Claypool reserves made it a double win, 29 to 22. Sunday the following were entertained at a chicken dinner by their mother, Pearl Babcock Whetstone, and husband, of near Pierceton: Mr. and Mrs. Harry Woodkey and son, Dickie, of Elkhart, and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Brennan and son, Bobby, of Warsaw. Workmen replaced a 12-foot piece of damaged pipe when a water main broke on West Winona Avenue near Lake Street, washing out a hole in the pavement.
