American Legion Post 49, Warsaw, recently honored two Leesburg Elementary students who scored highest on the Flag Education Test. They are Baxter Burnworth and Anna Reeves. Burnworth, the son of Ted and Kelly Burnworth, scored 85 on the test. Reeves, the daughter of Cary and Anita Reeves, scored 100 on the test. Each will receive a $20 bill in honor of the memory of Ralph C. "Sarge" Lichtenwalter.
Carla Ott, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Ott, Warsaw, a junior at Warsaw Community High School, recently served as a state senate page for state Sen. John Augsburger. Her experiences as a page offered an opportunity to better understand state government and witness first hand the legislative process at work during the Indiana General Assembly.
Seven straight-A students head the honor roll of 53 at Mentone School for the fourth grading period.
In an old newspaper clipping dated April 1949, found at the court house in the clerk's office, wholesale prices are as follows on commodities: Smoked ham, six and six and a half cents a pound; pork shoulder, four to four and a half cents a pound; lard, in barrels, five and a half to six and a half cents a pound; corn, 36-1/2 cents bushel, and flours, $4 a barrel.
