    Zachary Woodward served as page for state Sen. Kent Adams on March 1. Woodward, the son of Jeff and Cheri Bryan and Bruce and Darla Woodward, is a student at Lakeview Middle School.

March 18 1984

    The Second Annual Chess tournament sponsored by the Warsaw Community Public Library was attended by 23 players ages 9-1/2 to 17 recently.

Charles Bremer, 14, was the champion of the division for 13- to 17-year olds with nine wins. Tom Malloy, 14, had the next best score with eight and one half wins. In the division for 10- to 12-years-olds, Mark Smith, 12, and Jamey Tanner, 10 both won eight and one half chess games but after officials reviewed the games the two played, they declared Smith the champion.

March 18 1959

    Kenneth Shubert, of Indiana University, visited his mother, Mrs. J.J. Schubert, East Main Street, over the weekend. A junior in the I.U. School of Music, Kenneth has just been elected president of Phi Mu Alpha fraternity for professional musicians. An honor student, he made the dean's list for the second year and is working for a degree in music education.

March 18 1934

    The "first mushroom" of the season was found by Donald Beebe of the Winona Interurban Railway offices. He brought in the first real mushroom of the season and it's still on exhibit at the Times office for anyone who doubts it. Beebe picked it up in the grass along the interurban tracks near the car barns on North Detroit Street. April is the usual mushroom time around these parts.
