    The Winona Lake Fire Department recently honored members at their annual banquet. Mike Raymer received the Fireman of the Year Award; Mike Cox received the service award; and Tim Goshert was presented the Chief's Award.

    Pretty, blue-eyed and blonde Sharon Weaver DuBois, formerly of Pierceton, has entered the Mrs. Indiana-America contest to be held in Fort Wayne. She is the daughter of Royce and Evelyn Weaver, Pierceton, and has many friends in this area.


50 Years Ago

March 17 1957

    Three men ice-fishing on Webster Lake were very happy to get back on dry land.

Guy Poland and C.R. Perry, both of Warsaw, and D.F. Kordentine, North Manchester, were fishing when the ice around them broke away, leaving them stranded until Ralph Jenkins, of near Webster Lake, saw what had happened, launched a boat and brought the three men safely to shore.

75 Years Ago

March 17 1932

    Many farmers in the vicinity of Milford will this year turn their attention to the production of cabbage and it is estimated that fully 12,000 tons of cabbage will be shipped out of that town next fall. Last year a total of 2,000 tons of cabbage was shipped from Milford.

Cabbage growers of that section have organized an association of which Guy Lambert is the head and the organization has practically contracted with the Atlantic Commission Co. to furnish 1,000 cars of cabbage during the coming summer and fall.
