On March 7, Brad Bishop was honored at the state leaders conference for being chosen as the United Way Volunteer of the Year in Kosciusko County. The awards reception honored volunteers from around the state. Volunteers were toasted for their dedication, inspiration, community enhancement and other achievements. Kosciusko’s nominee, Bishop, serves on the board, the executive committee, the campaign cabinet, the nominating committee, and the search committee. In his contribution to the 2000 campaign, he raised the most dollars in the history of Kosciusko County United Way.

Lincoln Elementary School fifth-grader Sam Shetty outlasted 18 opponents recently to capture the elementary portion of the Kosciusko County spelling bee. Shetty, the son of Mr. and Mrs. H. Ravindranath Shetty, won the 24th round by correctly spelling candidacy. In the 23rd around, Seth Tuura of Atwood stumbled on the word bursar. Shetty then correctly spelled that word as well as candidacy.

Mr. and Mrs. Owen Emerick, Warsaw, are home from a two-month vacation spent partly in California and partly in Florida. They visited her sisters in Fresno and Menlo Bay, Calif. In Florida they made their headquarters at Fort Lauderdale.

Mr. and Mrs. Sam Stalter, Tippecanoe Lake, have returned from a 30-day Caribbean cruise.

Ruth Louise Grimm, Warsaw, a senior in the School of Home Economics, was among the 368 students at Purdue University who qualified for the rating of distinguished student, the highest scholastic citation obtainable at the institution, for work completed during the first semester.
