March 14 1997

    Clarence DeTurk, retired postmaster from Winona Lake, won first place in the largest shuffleboard tournament in the world Feb. 25-28.

The tournament, which featured 601 entries, was held in Weslaco, Texas. DeTurk won a large bag of groceries and a $100 gift certificate. Carl's Supermarket of Rio Grande Valley, Texas, sponsored the event.

    Betty Parker is the Miller's Merry Manor Inc. employee of the month for February. She is the R.N. on north hall and will be the health care supervisor for the hall in March.

    Rosemary Rovenstine, Bourbon High School senior, served as a page in the Indiana State Legislature. Mrs. Gene Rovenstine and Mrs. Tim Rovenstine, of Atwood, accompanied her to Indianapolis.

March 14 1932

    A tiny baby monkey, named Tuesday, was born at the Curley Lowman home just west of this city. His brother and sister, named Friday and Saturday, made great fuss over their new baby brother. Sue and Bill, the parents, appeared quite proud.
