Atwood fifth grade students Krista Bailey and Damian May weighed Lucy Bell, one of two experimental rats, while their teacher Terry Winteregg supervised. The class  conducted an experiment into the benefits of milk. Lucy Bell’s diet included milk while Skeeter’s diet contained sugar water and no milk. The National Dairy Council provided the rats and R.R. Donnelley and Sons, through the Adopt-A-School program, provided the necessary supplies. After one week of the experiment the students found the rat receiving milk weighed 17 grams more than the rat without milk.
