10 Years Ago Wawasee High School senior Shanna Zolman has been selected to play in the first-ever McDonald's All-American High School Girls Basketball Game. The game will be played as a doubleheader with the 25th annual McDonald's All-American Boys Game and will take place April 4 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Zolman has led the state in scoring all four years of her prep career, finishing her senior campaign at 33.8 points per game. She finished her prep career with 3,085 points, putting her behind only Damon Bailey on the state's career list for either boys or girls.
25 Years Ago Pierceton captured first place in a middle school wrestling tournament held recently, as the Cubs scored 540 points to defeat second-place Warsaw and four other schools. Nine Pierceton wrestlers were unbeaten for the day, with Scott Miller, Aaron Gourter, Kevin Locke, Matt Mitchell, Chad Voght, Rick Ousley, Tom Parker, Randy Atkins and Rod Thomas claiming perfect records. The three Warsaw wrestlers unbeaten were Chris Patrick, Richie Hernandez and Tommy Watkins.
50 Years Ago The Rev. and Mrs. Dale McClain, Winona Lake, will fly to California today to conduct a week of special services in San Gabriel. The McClains have been missionaries in Hong Kong four years. They plan to return next July. The Rev. and Mrs. F. Lee Jeffries, of Winona Lake, have gone to Washington, D.C., for the presidential prayer breakfast. They accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Rupp, of Fort Wayne. The Jeffries are associated with the Oriental Missionary Society.
75 Years Ago Judson Lytle, student at Manchester College, visited over the weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Lytle, Winona Lake. Miss Juanita Houser of Bourbon, Zeldon Lipply of Warsaw, Doris White of Barbee Lakes and Clifford Jamison of Warsaw spent Sunday evening in South Bend. Dale Babcock and W.A. Coleman attended the boat show recently in Chicago.
