AJ and Nick Jansen, sons of Dean and Carol Lyn Jansen, participated in the State Chess Championship, placing second and fourth. AJ is a third-grader and Nick is a first-grader at Eisenhower Elementary School. Louis Bolduc, son of James “Jay” and Amy Bolduc, placed fifth. He is a second-grader at Madison Elementary.
On March 16, 42 cases of daffodils will arrive in Warsaw. “Daffodil Days” in Warsaw are March 17 and 18 when volunteers will wrap 10 stems to a bunch and deliver the 2,100 bunches for the American Cancer Society.

Kosciusko County Council on the Aging and Aged moved into new offices the end of February at the Pete Thorn Youth Center on North Park Avenue, taking over offices occupied by the United Way. Jane Eherenman and director Barb Dagnall unpack office supplies.
Warsaw Park officials will now be in charge of scheduling and maintaining the Pete Thorn Youth Center. During the last 10 years, United Way officials have handled janitorial services, scheduled events and assigned space to other agencies.
Assistant Park Superintendent Larry Plummer reported that the old pickle factory is completely down and the ground leveled; “50 loads of gravel were put in the area and additional landscaping will be done in the spring.”

Warsaw students earning a Division I rating at a piano contest in Fort Wayne and receiving gold medals on their solos are Mareda Summers, Anne Kinsey, Ron Shoemaker, Susie Sadler, Priscilla Teeter, Debbie Dye, Janet Garber, Laurie Hull, Barbara Kinney, Steven O’Reilley, Rhonda Levin, Paulette Swanson, Ronald Wallis, Jane Glover, Wahnema Miner, Joseph Orr, Beth Spencer. A duet by Anne Kinsey and Connie Latta received a Division I rating. Soloists earning Division II and silver medals are Anne Jensen, Sue Bennett, Tim Miner, Anne Bernstein, Kathy Geible, Judy Heiman, Mary Howard, Sonja Lamoree, Lana Lowry, Ruth Nyenhuis, John Petro, Linda Snyder, Shelley White, Ellen Zitterbart, Jon Garber, Mike Hankins, Elise Orr, Cynthia Whitby, Anita Yohey. The duet by Delores Fox and Nancy Farrar received a Division II rating.

Work at electrifying the entire county is progressing at a satisfactory rate officials said. At present actual line construction is confined to the eastern part of the county. Easements for right-of-way and other preliminary measures necessary before building of the lines are commenced are now being recurred in Silver Lake and vicinity.
