Daughters of the American Revolution will host the annual Patriotic Tea in honor of the history essay contest winners from area schools. This year’s topic was “Along the Trail with Lewis and Clark.” Fifth-grade winners: Travis Adams, Akron; Haley Hinkle, Eisenhower; Kearsten Turner, Mentone; Olivia Turner, home school; Nathaniel Stone, Sacred Heart; Heidi Kolberg, Syracuse. Sixth-grade winner: Erika Jansen, Sacred Heart. Seventh-grade winners: Megan Meulink, Tippecanoe Valley Middle School; Holly Kolberg, Syracuse Middle School. Eighth-grade winners: Ashley Auer, Lakeland Christian Academy; Ashley Haegert, Whitko Middle School.
Holly Kolberg, seventh-grader from Milford School, was the winner of the middle school spelling bee after 39 rounds. Paige Geer, Wawasee Middle School, was the runner-up.

Rhonda Swanson, daughter of Randy and Barbara Swanson, Warsaw, participated in the Indiana All-State Choir at the Indiana Music Educators Association conference in Indianapolis. She is a member of the WCHS Select Chorale.
Tourney Tiger Tails, bright orange lengths of fabric, are available for free at Champs Sporting Goods, Center Street, Warsaw, compliments of Gordon Hackworth, general manager of Jomac Products Inc.
Color picture post cards promoting the Syracuse-Wawasee area are on sale at Thornburg Drugs, Gropp’s Wawasee Service Center and Augsburger’s Super Valu. The project was initiated by the Syracuse/Wawasee Chamber of Commerce and Creative Touch Studio.

Warsaw City Councilman Charles Ker has the most distinctive look in town with his bill-type cap purchased in England 15 years ago.
The 22-member Vienna Choir Boys and their director made a lunch stop Thursday at Liberty Cafe in Warsaw while enroute to a performance at Hanover College. The group is on a three-month tour of the United States and will perform in Indianapolis. Paul Kaufman, owner of the restaurant, commented on the fine discipline of the boys. “Like all American youth, they ordered hamburgers.”

Joshua Benton McMurray, 94, first cashier of the Lake City Bank and Civil War veteran, passed away at Indianapolis, where he had lived for a number of years. His father, James, a native of Putnam County, founded the bank in 1872 and served as president for several years.
Children six years of age on or before Feb. 23 may enter first grade at each building Jan. 29, the beginning of the second semester.
Vernon Newcomer and James Slabaugh, both of Syracuse, were winners in Al Gerard’s Central Shoe Store contest. Both boys picked Syracuse as county basketball champions.
