    Two local students will represent Kosciusko County in the Tools for Tomorrow All-American Vocational Student Awards Program.

Sarah Barber of Warsaw and Sonya Beer of Milford were selected as the outstanding vocational students of Warsaw and Wawasee high school respectively. Each girl will receive a $100 savings bond from TruServ Corp. and will advance to the state judging level.

    POTPOURRI - Unique Garage Door - Good friends of Jim and Judy Ratliff (Arrow Glass, and she's a Multi-Township EMT) are well aware of their love for classic Thunderbirds. Now, people who have never met them, but merely drive by their Kings Highway home, are also aware of it. A painting of a '56 T-Bird on the garage door was done by Bob Vandermark.


50 Years Ago

February 9 1958

    Feb. 2 was the 56th anniversary of a Mentone fire which destroyed all except one of the buildings on the north side of Main Street from the post office corner to the gas station site. It was eight degrees below zero. The fire truck had been left full of water, which was frozen solid - so was the fire bell rope. The estimated $10,000 loss included 11 business rooms and two dwellings.

February 9 1933

    Thirty to 50 good roads boosters, headed by Charles W. Bell of Leesburg, met with the county commissioners and urged that the county improve a main highway from the Leesburg main road through Oswego to the Tippecanoe Lake with a black-top surface.
