Cora (Sponseller) Zentz was 18 when she played piano and sang at the Etna Green United Methodist Church dedication, Feb. 6, 1916. Now at 93, she is the only living member of the church who attended that dedication service. This Sunday, Feb. 10, she plans to join the congregation at the corner of Broadway and Pearl streets in celebration of the church's 75th anniversary. Rev. Ronald Dixon is pastor. To date, six generations of Cora's family have attended the church. In 1969, she and her late husband, Elman, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary there. Three of her children and a granddaughter were married.
The church was first organized as a class meeting by circuit rider Rev. Peter Cartwright in 1865. In 1866, Rev. M. Wayman became the first pastor. The first church building was erected behind the present in 1878 under the pastorate of Rev. N.E. Tinkham. Construction of the present brick building was begun in 1914.
