 Kristin Allen, a Washington Elementary sixth-grader, won the elementary spelling bee Feb. 7 by correctly spelling “sapphire.” Runner-up was Henry Robinson, a sixth-grader from Jefferson. Allen will compete at Wawasee Middle School against the middle school winner. The Kosciusko County spelling champion will compete in Fort Wayne March 12. Coordinator for Monday’s bee was Brett Boggs, principal of Akron Elementary School.
Jonas Susaraba, son of John and Kathy, Warsaw, and Reid Bishop, son of Brad and Deb, Warsaw, served as pages for Rep. Ryan Mishler. Both are eighth-graders at Lakeview Middle School and spent a day at the Statehouse learning about Indiana government.

Mareda Summers, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Summers, is the winner of the second annual Warsaw Junior Chamber of Commerce Junior Miss Pageant sponsored by the Warsaw Jaycees. Anne Jensen was last year’s winner. Runner-up is Connie Latta, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Latta. Other participants were Rene Dungan, Janet Beck, Beth Swain, Kathy McClure, Warsaw High School; Melinda Watson, Marsha Shook, Jackie Kuhn, North Webster High; Carol Ann Werner, Silver Lake High. John Kleeman served as master of ceremonies.

Ward Williamson, Burket, has purchased the Elmwood apartment house on West Winona Avenue, formerly the property of the late Mart Sloan. Mrs. Jesse Eschbach, Warsaw, has bought the Berlin homestead, South Union Street, and plans to make it into several apartments. Realtors J.A. Caywood & Sons closed both deals.
