They have one grandchild. 50 Years Ago Sandy Lancaster was named Larwill High School’s “1965 Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow” when she achieved the highest score in a written examination given to senior girls in the home economics class. Donna Stevens, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Erwin Stevens, Warsaw, won Leesburg High School’s contest. Judy Kay Decker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dean Decker, Warsaw, is Mentone High School’s winner. Charles Betz was elected president of the Warsaw Rifle and Pistol Club during its annual meeting at the clubhouse on McElroy Hill. He succeeded Charles Huffer while Keith Shafer was re-elected secretary-treasurer. Sylvan Stump Jr. succeeded Jesse Gaff as executive officer, and Gaff succeeded Herbert Stier as vice president. 75 Years Ago Warsaw’s sunken iron stop street markers placed in the middle of the pavement are difficult to read at anytime, making it impossible to see when covered by ice and snow, especially on those streets with no stop sign posts marking the corners. And those cement abutment flasher signal posts set right in the middle of narrow East Market and East Main streets are death traps. The Main Street flasher base caused one death some years ago. The Junior Chamber of Commerce should look into the feasibility of correcting these dangers. Fire catching from a fireplace destroyed a radio, rugs and furniture in the living room of the South Indiana Street home of Reuben Williams Friday afternoon. No one was home. Both Warsaw and Winona Lake fire trucks answered the alarm turned in by a neighbor.
