Shane Newsome participated in the December graduation commencement ceremonies at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, earning a bachelor’s degree with honors in business management.  His classmates also honored him as an “Outstanding Professional” for exemplifying leadership, integrity, initiative, enthusiasm, character, achievement, co-operation and trustworthiness.
Pauline Campbell, daughter of Stephen and Linda Campbell, Warsaw, has been selected to play in Valparaiso University’s Luce Band. She is a graduate of Warsaw Community High School and is a sophomore chemistry and political science major in the College of Arts and Sciences.

Doris Ann Slaymaker has taken the director’s position of the Volunteer Community Services for Kosciusko County. Several years ago The Kosciusko County Leadership Academy saw a need to provide a clearing house for volunteer opportunities. The office will be funded by United Way and located at 212 E. Market St., the Combined Community Service building.
Neal Carlson, president of First National Bank of Warsaw, announced the promotion of Barry Van Dyck to vice president. He has been marketing director since joining the bank in 1986. Hal Stroh has been promoted to assistant vice president in the trust department. He came to First National with the merger of Peoples State Bank of Leesburg.

For the eighth consecutive year, The Times-Union and Radio Stations WRSW AM-FM will award individual trophies to the eight players selected on the all-county basketball tournament team. Head coaches of the 11 participating schools will select the honor squad. Michael Williams, assistant business manager, and Don Derry, sports editor, display the beautiful 17-inch trophies.
Schools at Akron, Mentone, Burket, Talma and Beaver Dam were dismissed early today due to the county basketball tourney in Warsaw. Superintendent of Tippecanoe Valley School Corp. Robert Forbes reported that it would be impossible for fans in the area to prepare to attend the tourney and maintain a regular school schedule.

Most of Kosciusko County experienced a heavy rain the past 24 hours. The water guage at the Northern Indiana Public Service Company power plant at Center Lake showed a precipitation of three-quarters of an inch. Temperature was the highest at at 3 p.m. Wednesday, registering 54 degrees above zero.
County Clerk Orvel E. Phillips issued 338 marriage licenses in 1937 and 314 in 1938, the most in August at 44. The law requires that a woman be a resident here.
Twenty salesmen representing the United States and Canada are attending the 12th annual convention of the Zimmer Manufacturing Company in session in Warsaw.
