Wawasee senior Shanna Zolman has raised the bar for basketball players all over the state. She currently sits atop the Indiana girls career scoring list and is second only to Damon Bailey overall. She hopes to add a state title to her many career accomplishments before taking off to play at the University of Tennessee under Coach Pat Summitt in the fall. She was the first freshman to nab Times-Union Player of the Year Honors. Now she has become the first athlete to earn the Times-Union Area Player Of the Year title four years in a row.

The three top prize winners in the Kosciusko Community YMCA swim team’s swim-a-lap fundraiser were, Kristin Hori, first; Paul Ellis, second; and Ivy Reed, third.
Ivy Reed, Warsaw, was the high-point winner in the 13-14 girl’s age group at the Southeast family Y Invitational held Jan. 24 and 25 at Norwell High School.

Mr. and Mrs. David Gast, of Country Club Drive, will leave Tuesday for Clearwater, Fla., where they plan to spend the next three weeks or so. They will be accompanied south by the former’s mother, Mrs. E.A. Gast, of Yarnelle Point, Winona Lake.
Miss Lenell Ellen Rettinger, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Rettinger, Bourbon, was one of 81 student nurses awarded caps at the Indiana University school of nursing in Indianapolis recently. A reception followed the service.

Three hundred and fifty members of the Silver Lake Sportsmen Club, state conservation department club, enjoyed a banquet recently at the Silver Lake High School building. Ocean perch, scalloped potatoes, with plenty of delectable side dishes were served by Bill Lewis and five men cooks. Men served the tables. Two hundred pounds of perch were prepared for the feast. Talks were given by Charles Lemaree, president of the club and Walter R. Mesnert, secretary.
