Congratulations to Rob Clark, Silver Lake, for receiving the “Fireman of the Year” award from the Silver Lake Fire Department. He was quite honored since his father, the late Ray “Razor” Clark, received the award in 1989.

Orville and Lois Sherman, Ind. 14 in Jackson Township, were presented the Conservation Farmer of the Year award at the annual Soil and Water Conservation District annual banquet recently. The Shermans have owned a 160-acre farm in the county since 1969 and have been practicing a variety of conservation measures including contour farming, no till fields, grass waterways and water and sediment controls. They plant a rotation of corn, beans and hay on the acreage.

More than 1,000 third-grade pupils from Kosciusko County and area schools had the ”time of their lives” recently at the Shrine Circus in Fort Wayne, and three youngsters enjoyed a special treat when they met a couple of the circus clowns. They were Paul Petro, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Petro Jr., Warsaw, and Mike Simpson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles T. Simpson Jr., also of Warsaw. The clown commanding all the attention was Karen Watkins, of Bourbon. The annual trip was sponsored by the Kosciusko County Shrine Club.

Mrs. Emanuel McCreary, elderly resident of near North Manchester, has been ill several days with the measles. She said she got them from “the baby.” The baby happens to be her son John, who is 56 years old.
The junior class of the Atwood High School gave the play, “Aunt Cindy Cleans Up,” at the Atwood gym recently. The proceeds were $61.35 and will be given to the Red Cross for flood relief work.
