Mike Wilson was named the 2002 Person of the Year by the North Webster/Tippecanoe Township Chamber of Commerce. Wilson moved to the North Webster community in 1988 but has worked in the area for 25 years. He and his wife, Judy, celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary this year and have four children -- one at Indiana University, three at Wawasee.

When Mentone's long-time postmaster retired last month, the search for a replacement didn't have to go far. Steven Maynard, who has worked in the Warsaw Post Office the past seven years as postal clerk and assistant supervisor, was named as the new Mentone postmaster. The 37-year-old Maynard has been employed in postal work for eight years, starting in his hometown of Gas City and also Marion.

A $50,000 to $100,000 fire destroyed the century-old Warsaw Grain & Milling Company plant, located on South Union Street (adjacent to the Pennsylvania Railroad tracks in Warsaw) at 4:15 yesterday morning. The ruins of the main building of the plant were still belching smoke at noon yesterday, but Warsaw and Winona Lake firemen had the fire under control by about 8 a.m. The mill, first erected in 1857, was a landmark in this city.

Mrs. Carl F.  Beyer and Mrs. J.F. Beyer, of Warsaw, visited the latter's sister, Mrs. Martha Iffert, at San Bernardino, Calif., and are leaving there for Vancouver. Mrs. Iffert, 78, lived in Warsaw as a young woman. She will return to Warsaw with the party after a trip through Canada.
Mrs. Ralph Klingel returned recently to her home in Warsaw after visiting since Monday at Ashland, Ohio, with her son, Wellington Klingel, who is a student at Ashland College.
