Warsaw native Amy Miles won the shot put and placed second in the 20-pound weight throw at the 1997 Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Championships.
Miles won the shot put with a toss of 46-5 1/4. She placed second in the weight throw with an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 55-5 3/4. That throw broke the Indiana State school record, which she already held in the 20-pound weight.

Representative George Fisher, of Leesburg, invited Monroe School to select a boy or girl to serve as a page in the state legislature on George Washington's birthday. The choice is Eloise Priser, 12, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Priser, Warsaw, a sixth-grader. She's a fine student, interested in band and 4-H work.
