Copies of “America, A Patriotic Primer” have been donated to each elementary school in the Warsaw school system by the Warsaw Breakfast Optimist club. Member Bill Dalton spearheaded the book purchase to provide students with another opportunity to study history. Dalton is a local attorney and history buff.

Dan Rice, of Rice Ford, has turned into quite a charitable guy. It seems he was among the lucky to be chosen as one of the men in “Rent A Gent,” a benefit charity auction in Fort Wayne last weekend for muscular dystrophy. Bidding was reportedly intense, but a nurse from Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne paid $175 to have the dating services of Rice after reviewing the field of eligible bachelors. Rice, by the way, turned 25 Wednesday.

This recipe is from the Women’s Exchange column for Coffee Cake:
After blending 2 cups flour and 1/2 cup butter, beat in 1/2 cup warm milk, 1 egg yolk, 1 package yeast dissolved in 1/4 cup warm water. Chill until manageable. Roll out flat and spread foamy egg white on the dough. Put 1/2 cup brown sugar in a line down the center lengthwise. Sprinkle with 1/2 cup nutmeats and raisins or apples or any other favorite fruit. Fold in sides so they overlap and turn ends up so that juices won’t leak out. Let stand 1 hour, then bake at 400 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes. Can divide dough and make 2 small cakes. (Thanks to Mrs. Glen Harman, Warsaw.)
