10 Years Ago Pauline Campbell and David McDairmant, seniors at Warsaw Community High School, were named finalists in the 2002 competition of the National Merit Scholarship Program.
Campbell's parents are Stephen and Linda Campbell, Warsaw. She will attend Valparaiso University. McDairmant's parents are Thomas and Gracia McDairmant, Warsaw. He plans to attend LeTourneau University or Calvin College and major in engineering.
25 Years Ago The pool project continues - workmen were busy scrubbing the newly laid tile on the floor of Warsaw's Freshman High School swimming pool during construction work recently. Tiling work for the eight-lane pool began this week. School officials are still hoping for a mid-April start for the $2.1 million facility.
50 Years Ago Miss Linda Lou Burnworth, Pierceton, was chosen "Sweetheart Queen" of Fort Wayne Commercial Business College at the annual Sweetheart Ball. Burnworth is taking a private secretarial course at the school. One of the four "princesses" selected was Diane Huffman, Leesburg.
Five Mentone seniors recently received Future Farmers of America sweaters for their work in the organizations. Those receiving sweaters were Jerry Blackburn, Doyle Eiler, Jim Mikel, Fred Horn and Gary Harmon.
75 Years Ago Mrs. Julius Schubert has returned to Warsaw after visiting for one week at Peru where she participated in a program given by the Twilight musical of which she is president. Schubert was called to Peru by the illness of her mother, Mrs. E.K. Smith.
Mr. and Mrs. Nick Mallers and daughter, Bessie Ann, visited recently with friends at Anderson. The trip was made in honor of Bessie Ann, whose third birthday anniversary was Feb. 25.
