    Hoosier Basketball Magazine named its top 100 senior girls basketball players for the 1997-98 season, and three local players were among those honored.

Warsaw's Tiffany Ross, Wawasee's Lydia Carpenter and NorthWood's LoriDawn Klotz were selected for the top 100 senior girls.

    SILVER LAKE - The residents of this town turned out to honor its citizens of the year and the annual Lions Club banquet.

Plaques for community service were given to Marlin Carr, man of the year, and Myrtle Lee and Pat Spratt, co-women of the year. Bill Kneller was named Lions Club member of the year and Brad Spratt, youth of the year. A special citizenship award went to Ike Kendall.

February 26 1958

    Jim Stouffer, junior reserve guard from Pierceton, played nearly three-fourths of the game for Michigan State College in its 69-55 triumph over Illinois.

Stouffer's father, Howard, is principal of the Pierceton School. Jim, a Kosciusko County High School standout in basketball, has a fine chance of making the Michigan State starting five next season.

    PIERCETON - Vera Lawshe, daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. J.E. Lawshe of this city, who is attending school in Boston, will sing in a choral festival at the opera house in Boston with the Protestant and Catholic choir of Greater Boston. This choir is composed of 2,000 voices and is directed by the Rev. Finn, Catholic priest of New York City, and Dr. John F. Williams of the famous Westminster choir of Ohio.
