    Four fifth-grade students from Akron Elementary School were recently honored as the winners of the school's DARE essay contest. DARE officer Tim Sammons presented a Darin, the DARE Lion, and a medallion to students Aaron Reed, Nikki Combs, Kati Brady and Carlos Herrera.

    Joseph A. Arnold retired Dec. 31, 1983, after having been with the First National Bank of Warsaw for 14 years. He joined the bank as a collector in the Installment Loan Department in 1969.

    Second Lt. Jack L. Spearman, son of Mr. and Mrs. F.R. Spearman, North Webster, was graduated recently from pilot training school at Webb AFB, Texas. He reports Feb. 22 to Perrin AFB, Sherman, Texas, to begin six months' training on jet fighter planes.

February 24 1934

    Emmett Douglass, who for the last three years has been working for the government, has just received notice that in an examination for engineers for the construction of 12 locks and dams for the Mississippi River, he ranked second place. There were 1,300 person who entered the examination.
