10 Years Ago On a recent episode of the game show “Jeopardy,” Warsaw, Ind. came up as an answer. The category was “Where’s That?” The question was “The Indiana City that shares its name with this world capital is the seat of Kosciusko County.” The answer is, of course, “What is Warsaw?” Apparently, a lot of area people watch the game show as the Times-Union received numerous calls regarding Warsaw being mentioned on the game show. And yes, game show host Alex Trebek did pronounce Kosciusko County correctly. 25 Years Ago Sally Long has touched the lives of Kosciusko County residents since World War II. Long, 85, the county’s first full-time paid Red Cross employee, will be honored with a special “Sally Long Blood Day.” A day is being held in conjunction with the 37th anniversary of the blood mobile’s existence in Kosciusko County. Long was hired as executive secretary in 1941 for 40 cents an hour. She started as a volunteer to do something during the war times. 50 Years Ago David Fanning, band director at Etna Green, reports that 10 Etna Green High school students received first-place awards in the state solo and ensemble contest. First-place winners in the solo division were Claudia Anglin, vocal solo, and Sue White, tenor saxophone solo. Those winning in ensembles were Cinda Stouder, Bonnie Sponseller and Linda Burnett, vocal trio, first; Jackie Abell, Gail White, Suzanne Johnston and Judy Johnston, clarinet quartet, first; Diana Sponseller, Cinda Stouder and Rachel Harman, flute trio, first. 75 Years Ago Mr. and Mrs. Walter Gable, Warsaw arrived in Warsaw Tuesday evening after spending the past two months in Los Angeles, Calif., visiting relatives. They reported that they were delayed three days between Amarillo, Texas, and Oklahoma City, Okla., by snow. This was the first real snow experienced in that section of the country in eight years. The schools were dismissed in a number of towns in order that the children could go sledding.
