February 23 1999

    It was over 10 minutes after it began - Chris Breault, a sixth-grader at Eisenhower Elementary School, was crowned the 1999 Kosciusko County Spelling Bee champion.

Breault is the son of Mike and Mary Breault of Warsaw.

February 23 1984

    Three sisters, Althea (Iden) Hamlin, Amy (Iden) Knepper and Avis (Iden) Mason accepted a Hoosier Homestead Award from Indiana Lt. Gov. John Mutz at a ceremony in Indianapolis. The three sisters own a farm in Etna Green that has belonged to the same family since 1864.

February 23 1959

    An Akron mother, Helen Utter, and two children are being schooled on Indiana University campus. Utter, a prominent Akron business woman, has enrolled for her senior year in the school of business at the university. Her 9-year-old daughter, Lynne, is a student at the university grade school, and her son, Channing, is attending the school of business there.

February 23 1934

    Spring is here! A four-foot blue racer snake was killed a few days ago by Jake Widman, who lives east of Warsaw on Road 30. Widman spied the reptile sunning itself recently in a woods on the Roy O. Bibler farm adjoining Widman's. Jake is a little bit superstitious when it come to snakes.
